SCAL History
The Salem County Art League is made possible in part by funds from
the New Jersey State Council on the Arts/Department of State,
Partner Agency of the National Endowment for the Arts, through the
Salem County Board of Commissioners and Salem County
Cultural and Heritage Commission.
HISTORY
The artists were taking a watercolor class with Alex Alampi, Jr., in Richwood, NJ, when there was a discussion about attending the Gloucester County Art League meeting. Alex Alampi Jr. stated, "It is a shame there is not a Salem County Art League." Donna Clement volunteered, "Well, why don't we start one!" She asked if the class would like to join together to form a Salem County Art League and, thus, SCAL became a reality.
The Salem County Art League, Inc., is now registered with the State of New Jersey as a New Jersey Non-profit Corporation. The Federal IRS has granted our tax-exempt status. Because of our new 501 (c)3 status, sales tax on any sales made by artists at Art League events must be paid by the artists individually.
It is not necessary to be a Salem County resident to join our art league. The only requirement is to have an interest in art. The public is welcome all general meetings and some events.
TODAY
The membership in the Salem County Art League continues to grow. If you are interested in joining the Salem County Art League, please contact us about how to sign up and participate in the workshops, trips, studios, and exhibits.
